When To Call For Electrical Repairs

electrical-panel-repair

Lights flickering at random? Not sure why the toaster sparks when you plug it in? It’s difficult to know when you need electrical repairs, because some of the signs your home sends your way can just be flukes you can write off as a quirk or isolated incident.

So how do you know which ones to listen to, and when it’s actually a big problem? How do you know if you need electric repair service in Grayson or not? Let’s talk about that and help you figure things out.

Non-Functioning Outlets

Simply put, right to the point: non-functional outlets are fire hazards that need to be dealt with immediately. Similarly to another topic we’ll cover (power surges), the wiring in your outlets can get burned out, which causes them to stop working.

Sometimes outlets can just be defective, as well. It doesn’t have to be the result of a power surge or anything else. Defective outlets won’t die out right away, though they definitely won’t last as long as other outlets in your home.

Buzzing Sounds

A light hum or buzzing noise is a cause for concern. You might notice this when you turn the lights on, especially if you have fluorescent lighting. If you have a standard 60W bulb, it usually handles around 110 to 130 volts in total.

That buzzing could be from an overload. The bulb isn’t going to magically pop or break at 131 volts, so instead, it buzzes. The problem here is that any resistors that are supposed to suppress the flow of electricity to the bulb aren’t doing their job properly, and it needs to be inspected.

Sudden Power Surges

It’s not storming outside, there’s no construction down the road, so what gives? Your power can flicker even if there’s no external cause. Faulty wiring can be to blame.

Your wiring isn’t invincible. While it’s meant to withstand a certain voltage, enough power surges can damage home wiring and turn it into a safety hazard. This can happen if your home has endured multiple storms in the past.

Flickering Lights

You turn your lights on, and they just sort of flicker–you can see it when you stop and look through the room. That’s not a good sign.

If you notice light flickering in other rooms in your house, it’s unlikely that every bulb you just looked at is loose. Instead, it’s a wiring issue that needs to be taken care of as soon as possible.

A Quick Word of Caution Before You Go

Just because nothing bad has happened to your home doesn’t mean that it can’t. You may think that the flickering lights you’ve had for months or years aren’t a big deal, but if the wiring in your home is compromised, your safety is left up to chance (more so than usual). Always take electrical problems in your home seriously.

It’s Time for Electrical Repair

Does any of this sound familiar to you? It’s time that you call for electrical repair before problems get worse, and we both know it. Any sign of sparks, non-functioning outlets, and flickering lights is enough of a reason to call for an inspection and repair. Reduce your risk of electrical fire and always call an electrician to help you out.
