5 Signs Your Electrical Panel Is Out Of Date

What is the thing that manages all of the electricity that flows through your home? The thing we are talking about is your electrical panel. This panel regulates and monitors your electrical flow, keeping things running and keeping you safe too.

So what happens when your electrical panel is out of date? An out-of-date panel is going to create some trouble for your home until you are able to get it upgraded.

Be on the lookout for these warning signs so that you know when to have your electrical panel in Ashland upgraded.

1. You still have a fuse box

This may be a little obvious but it is still important to take note off. If you don’t even have an electrical panel to start with, and you are still using a fuse box, we’d strongly advise that you upgrade to a panel. Fuse boxes can still work but they cannot offer the safety and capacity that an electrical panel does. Reach out today for a replacement.

2. You have multiple flickering lights

Flickering lights are often an indicator of trouble with the electrical flow through your home. If it seems like the lights throughout your home dim and flicker on a regular basis, then it is a good idea to have your electrical panel assessed as it may not be able to keep up with your electrical demands anymore.

3. You encounter frequent circuit trips

Does turning on more than one large appliance lately cause a circuit trip? If you have found yourself making regular trips to your electrical panel to flip back tripped circuits, it may mean it is time for an upgrade. You may need a panel that is in better condition or one that has a larger electrical capacity.

4. There are outlets that rarely work

“Oh, that plug doesn’t work.”

If you have found yourself saying this to friends and family looking to plug in a phone or other appliance, then you need to have your electrical panel assessed. All of the outlets in your home should work reliably and if they don’t, then you have a problem that a professional electrical should be able to fix.

5. Your current panel is over 20 years old

The age of your electrical panel is something to pay attention to. An electrical panel that was installed in 1999 won’t have the same capacity as one that was installed even 10 years ago. If you have an old electrical panel that is seriously struggling to provide electricity throughout your home, it may be time for an upgrade. Modern households use far more electricity than those of 15 to 20 years ago!
